Deanna Templeton and Ed Templeton
Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Domy Books, Austin
913 E Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX 78702
Exhibition runs March 12–April 28, 2011
Pretty much the whole Austin art scene was psyched about this one - Ed and Deanna Templeton’s only second collaborative art exhibition. The show consisted entirely of photos and not one photo too many. It felt like one piece that you walk into. Capturing suburbia coming to terms with and exposing its sexuality. The gallery itself is actually inside a book store in town called Domy Books. The go-to place for Matt Furie zines, handmade cards, Limited Edition Chris Ofili art books, or to geek out over Blu. They also have a book called “Cat getting out of a bag” which is like seinfeld but with kitties. Take a look. - Words & photos submitted by Manik Nakra
This was baby Seiben's first art show!
I love that Ed hand wrote the show title with a very thin coat of paint. The translucence really helped with the sexual adolescence that was running through the show. Also hand drawn type always rules.
Some of Ed and Deanna's art books were set up. I think Ed autographed all of them! He drew and signed so many drawings of little monster s on skateboards and posters for fans. How sick is that! I wish I had one of those little drawings.
The gallery of Domy.
Deanna told me this particualr piece was about kids becoming aware of their sexuality but also being abused by eing written on.
Ed and Deanna are very humble people. Chatting with fans here.
That Mat Brinkman book is so cool. That Mat Brinkman show at The Hole,NYC recently looked so sick.
This is Russell Etchen. Founder and curator of Domys most excellent book selection and exhibiting...
